Downtown Baton Rouge - December, 2006

Downtown Baton Rouge
It was a lovely, balmy evening, and we enjoyed a walk around downtown before dinner. Sixty degrees in December. No jacket. What a treat!

New Capital Building
Completed in 1932 when Huey P. Long was govenor. It cost $5,000,000 and was completed in 14 months.
Tsunami's Sushi Bar
This was our find of the week. On the top floor of the Shaw Center, the dining area had floor to ceiling windows overlooking the Mississippi River. Go outside to enjoy the view.
Views from Tsunami's rooftop
The draping lights above follow the bridge over the Mississippi.
The Old Capital
The old castle-looking building is the original capital, built in 1849. Mark Twain reportedly called it the ugliest building on the Mississippi, but it's a beautiful structure - arches, stained glass, and the sort of architectural detail we don't see anymore.

Training Room Companion
This Blog isn't about the work place, but I couldn't resist showing the fellow who shared the training room with us all week.

A little garden at the food court.

Houston International Airport
... a quick walk from Terminal A to Terminal C on the way to Baton Rouge. The blue ceiling is a domed echo chamber filled with little silver twinkles.

Opryland Hotel - Nashville - December, 2006

Opryland Hotel with its halls decked for the holidays

This was taken inside the hotel. A really big hotel!

We walked the winding paths and little wooden bridges through the indoor gardens. Elves relaxed here and there on park benches, banks of poinsettas met lush greenery gardens, zebras floated above in great balloon baskets. There was a surprise at every turn.

......and outside... white carriages drawn by white horses

and angels gathered around the fountains.

B.B. King's - Nashville

Fried green tomatoes, gumbo, collards. I had the greens, and they were good. http://nashville.bbkingclubs.com/

After the extravagance of the Opryland Hotel, we headed downtown to The District for dinner and to see what the other side of town offered. The District is made up of 2nd Avenue, Printer's Alley, and Broadway. We walked along 2nd Ave for a bit, then drove down to Printer's Alley & Broadway before heading back to our hotel. http://www.thedistrictnashville.org/

Nashville Airport - December, 2006

Nashville Airport
This was a "piece of cake" flight. Got on the plane in KC, fell asleep before we left the ground, woke when we landed in Nashville, got off the plane. No time change and the flight was an hour and a half long. How easy can it get? Once again, I'm doomed to taking photos in the dark until winter is over.

This little airplane guy is in mosiac tiles and is as cute as he can be.
